Do you like the idea of swapping ideas and providing mutual support? Do you need support with certain aspects of the writing process? Come and join Elementary V Watson’s writing groups! From poetry to prose, from scripts to screenplays, whether you’re just starting out or have been writing for years, everyone is welcome!
Being a writer can feel like a lonely, frustrating process and the temptation to procrastinate can be overwhelming. The TV, the internet, the washing, the ironing; everything can conspire to distract you. That’s why Elementary V Watson’s groups provide a calm and structured environment to help you concentrate on your work.
The groups provide useful prompts to start you off as well as offering support and advice on all aspects of writing, from overcoming writer’s block to getting published. There are opportunities to share your work with the group and get some feedback but there is no obligation to read aloud. You are encouraged to bring any pieces you are currently working on.
Members of Elementary V Watson’s writing groups have performed at several spoken word events, including Blood from the Quill at the Cumberland Arms in 2015 and the Tynemouth Volunteer Life Brigade in January 2016. In February 2015, we launched Thrills ‘n’ Chills, our fantastic first collection of short stories and poetry, at Newcastle’s prestigious Lit and Phil. In 2016, Victoria established the North East component of Noir at the Bar, a quarterly spoken word event.
The Creative Writing groups not only give you the opportunity to create new work but also to receive constructive feedback. Elementary V Watson has helped group members get their work published, win writing competitions and take part in Creative Writing podcasts.
